handmade...

handmade is my favorite... i'm very happy when i'm creating something... it's a big part of who i am...

my dining room has been overrun this summer with supplies, my sewing machine, and fabric... piles of fabric...

now that the girls are back in school, i have high hopes to get everything moved back up to the studio space on our third floor... i love working up there but in the summer months it's not the most convenient... and it's hot!

the pocketful of posie garlands are one of my favorite things to make...
maizie and marina help pair fabrics and choose buttons...
they enjoy it and it's a nice way to spend extra time with them while i'm working...
i just love all of the colorful combinations...
and i'm so happy that so many of you love them, too!

i've had a few questions come up about the flower and mason jar hoops...
i honestly am working on things as fast as i can and i'm hoping to have a few more of these available soon...

but right now i'm up to my ears in pumpkins...
the requests for these have way exceeded my expectations...
i'm so thankful for all of you who've shown an interest in the pumpkin patch garlands... it means the world to me that something that i've created will be in so many of your homes...

i recently added these hand crocheted hats to my etsy shop...
super cute for fall...

{removable frilly flower clippie that can also be worn as a hair clip...}

sharing my love for handmade and creating is something that i've always wanted to do and i'm so thankful for all of your orders and patience as i try to find balance in it all...

pocketful of posie garlands...

i've seriously been slacking on this little, blog of mine... like, i skipped the entire month of april... how does that happen?

i had good intentions... still have a bunch of posts sitting in draft mode... i just never got around to sharing any of them...

nothing major was getting in my way... just the busy of every day... i have lots to catch up on here, but thought i'd drop in real quick today with a little shop update...

the pocketful of posies garland is something that i've had in the works for a while... i finally sat down the other day... made up a few pattern pieces and started pairing up fabrics...

i'm so happy with how they turned out... there is an eclectic mix of 7
{5"} flowers strung on approximately 9 1/2 feet of twine...
the flowers slide around on the twine so they can be adjusted to fit any space as needed...
each flower is embellished with a vintage button center... i like the special touch that they add :)
i've spent the last few days in my studio working away on these... i hope that you enjoy them as much as i do...

my etsy shop...

so... i've been chatting with jen at the cottage nest... for a few months we've been encouraging one another to follow our dreams... this week she opened up her etsy shop {she makes such pretty things!}

and...
see that little tab up there that says my shop?  welp, i finally did it... yesterday i set up my little shop on etsy... it's only taken me years and years...

i don't know why i let fear hold me back so much... fear can be a real jerk... freezing me into doing nothing... so silly... if i just try, then i'll know one way or the other if something is going to work or not... which is probably better than talking about it for years on end and never knowing...

in the past, i've always said when i have 5 of this, this, and that... then i'll open up a shop... or, maybe i'll add some things to a shop once i get a really cute banner designed for it... turns out i'm not a factory pumping out endless items and i'm no graphic designer either, so i end up doing nothing... i always wait for the perfect moment, the perfect item, want it to look perfect...

guess what? nothing is perfect and i'm learning that, too... it's better to start... add items as they come... and hope that it just evolves over time... fingers are crossed here, friends :)

right now there are these adorable, little hand crochet easter baskets listed...
the crinkly filler is hand painted and you can choose the color that you would like in your basket in the notes section of your order...
they're the perfect little gift for a teacher or special someone... tuck in a gift card and maybe some yummy dove foil wrapped eggs...

i'm hoping to add a few more things soon... next up... fun, decorative hoops to add to your wall décor :)

i'm pretty excited about this new venture...
i love making pretty things and i hope you all enjoy what i make, too...

working on my creative space... part two

i've been talking about my studio space for over a year now... {see this post}... it's such a neat part of our 1931 home... the third floor... once a maid's quarter...

yet for some reason this area of our house has always been the catch all for everything that we don't know what to do with... i would start to get the space looking a little better... maybe clear a corner and then not get back up there for months... basically starting from square one all over again...

on february 20th our house got hit by lightning and some things were damaged... a whole in our interior wall, outlets that were blown out... phone, cable, internet and electrical issues... the fire department was called out... i cringed as they said "do you mind if we check out your third floor?"...

ummm... needless to say... it was just the kick in the pants i needed to get myself to finally get it together up there... my mom came over, john helped and 2 days later i had a pretty good grip on the mess and a pretty cute space to work in... there are still things that need tweaking but i'm happy with how its coming along... {kinda want to invite those firefighters back over!}

wanna take a look?

it was fun once the clutter was cleared away and seasonal stuff was stored appropriately...
nothing like gathering cute pieces of milk glass and fun baskets to organize books, trims, washi tape, yarn... visually pleasing and it's so nice to know where something is if i need it... i'm now on the hunt to find some cute storage to fill the shelves that are behind those closed doors...
fabric hoarder? maybe... that was just one little section of it... i purged, trimmed, refolded and tucked it all by color into cubbies... {still have to take a pic of that...} it made me so happy to see what I have in tidy little stacks...
this cork board is from tj maxx and when john originally created this space for me, he mounted it on the wall behind the sewing table that he built... it's my inspiration board and a place to tack up my favorite things... pictures of my girls, a cute banner made by my littlest, vintage buttons, twine, hoops, fun business cards i've collected from other bloggers/shops... pretty much just little bits that make me happy! i'm sure it will evolve over time...
i {heart} this lamp so much... my dad bought it for me and i had it in maizie's nursery when she was a baby... one day it tipped and the solid, white globe shattered... it made me sad... i packed away the base with hopes to find another globe to fit it one day... my dad bought a hurricane lamp that had this milk glass shade and they work perfectly together... happy dance!
maizie made me a washi tape banner to string up by one of the windows... the curtains are made from strips of cheesecloth...
this area makes me smile... the sewing machine will be parked there soon {working on a cute cover for it...} and remember that yellow chair? it works great with my lamp :)
see along the side table... i want to skirt that with cute fabric... when i do, i'll be sure to show ya!
the lighting is tricky up here but this is a view of the space when i stand back...

it still needs some cozy-ing... area rugs, etc... but it's nice to have a place to call my own... a place to create that makes me smile :)

so what's making you smile lately?
tell me, tell me!

a twirly skirt...

you probably know by now that i love to sew... and that i love fabric... there's great satisfaction that comes with a finished project...
that's how oopsie maizie began... i made clothing for my first born daughter, maizie... people who saw her wearing things i made began to order... and the orders continued to come...
by word of mouth, things were spreading nicely... then life got a little crazy... well... a lot crazy... and i made the decision to go back to school for early childhood education... once i took that step... oopsie maizie fell by the wayside...

i still made things for my girls but i kind of stopped doing it as anything more than that...

i received a request the other day for a 4 year old little girl who lives in florida...
i immediately got excited... because, you see... making clothing makes me happy!

i'm hoping to start bringing some of that back into my life... and hopefully one day i'll get up the courage to open up an etsy shop... i think that would be fun!

here's what i've been up to...
a little shirt...
with ruffly detailing and a frilly flower...

&

a twirly skirt...
with ruffly detailing...
i'm so happy with how it turned out...

marina asked me to make an outfit for her... she was a little sad when she came home today and realized that this one wasn't for her...

can't wait to pull together some fabric options for her... and when i do... i'll be sure to share them with you :)

have a happy day~
