frozen in time...

this past weekend was super busy... my girls were going in different directions from thursday night through sunday...such is the season of life we're in, i guess...

there was a halloween party, three sleepovers, an afternoon of tutu making with 7 happy, laughing tweens, two birthday parties, a poster making get together for the pink ribbon cheer classic this upcoming weekend, a corn maze and a pumpkin walk...

saturday night, there was a break in the action... after the poster making, we came home and the girls and i decided to have a movie night... we popped some corn, put in the goonies... and within about a half an hour, marina climbed in my lap and fell asleep...

it's a grainy photo but a moment i don't want to forget... she'll be 9 in december and i don't know how many more nights like this there will be...
it totally made me think back to all of the nights spent holding both of my girls until they would fall asleep... and then tip-toeing all the way upstairs to tuck them in, trying not to wake them along the way...

gosh, why does life seem to keep moving faster and faster?

it's one of the main reasons that i snap so many photos... little memories... frozen in time...

cute packaging...

my friend cara celebrated her birthday on tuesday... today, we got together for a fiesta of a lunch at tequila jalisco to celebrate the occasion...

i knew that i wanted to take her a little gift... i found the perfect alex and ani bracelet for her and  also tucked in a small pumpkin frost hand sanitizer {or... hanitizer as my marina has always called it!} because... tis the season...

i'm pretty sure that i've said this before, but i love wrapping up presents... it's one of my favorite things to do...

i gathered some supplies... rubber stamps, a manila tag, a bit of lace and trim, a brown paper lunch bag, yarns, cotton twine, cupcake liners, a mini clothespin... not really knowing what i was going to do yet... and mainly focusing on colors...

i trimmed a paper bag down with pinking shears and used the part that i cut off to make a band around the bracelet box... i secured it with a bit of washi tape and added a chipboard present embellishment... i tied the box up with a mix of yarn and cotton twine... {forgot to take a pic of that part... oopsie!}

for the hanitizer... i needed something cute to package up the little bottle... a glassine bag would have been perfect but i was fresh out of those... i started looking around and saw my stack of cupcake liners... i was immediately inspired by jessica at two shades of pink... i was recently reading her blog and she made the cutest, little pouches from cupcake liners to hold cookies... i made it work for the hanitizer...
i placed the wrapped bracelet and little pouch above into the brown paper bag, folded it down, hole punched the top and tied it up with more yarn and cotton twine... i like to mix textures and colors for interest...
hand stamping tags with the person's name adds a nice touch... i sewed a strip of lace and a bit of trim that i had removed from the sleeves of one of maizie's baby lulu dresses from years ago... used a tiny clothespin to clip it on and wall-ah... it was done!

next time you need to wrap, remember to look around for things you may already have, brown or white lunch bags, cute tags can easily be made from card stock cut and hole punched... if you're unable to sew... a hot glue gun will do the trick for adding the embellishments along tags, etc... it's always fun to collect different alphabet stamps and have an ink pad on hand... lately, target has had them in their dollar bins for as low as $3 for the set...

happy wrapping!

lately...

you'll find me on the third floor of our home... in my creative space surrounded by this scene...
i'm nearing the end of my orders... and i'm just so thankful for every. single. one. of. them...
the leaves are changing... most days there's a swirl of them outside of our windows...
the mornings are brisk... and full of routine again... i never want to forget the backpacks that are oh, so big... marina waits here every morning for her school bus {well, on the mornings that we aren't running late... not disclosing how many of those there are... ha!} i watch maizie now as she slings hers over her shoulder with ease and is off... years of memories being created on this little, front porch area of ours... sometimes it really is about the every day moments...
in other news... i found this cute framed art at the hobby lobby the other day {$29.99 and 50% off in case you're curious}... it came trimmed out by a light, wooden frame... i brought it home and spruced it up with some warm white paint and now i love it even more...
i'm hoping to add it to our breakfast nook... i have a hard time committing to what i would like on our walls so they often sit empty... for years...  i have a small collection of milk glass plates going and i think they might look cute in the nook, as well... we shall see...
i've also picked up this book again... the invention of wings... have you read it? it's historical... also, it's set in charleston and i'm loving that... i'm already drawn to sarah... so insightful at such a young age... can't wait to read on...

what have you been up to lately?
