sprucing up the kitchen...

happy new year to all of you!

have you ever wanted to make something new for your home but you put it off... and off... and off...

i do this all of the time... i think, once again, it's because i want it to turn out a certain way so i let fear stop me from even starting...

i had some extra time yesterday before we headed to a new years eve get together, so i thought that it was just as good of a time as any to make a new curtain for our kitchen... that little window has been naked for too long...

about 2 years ago, i bought this fabric with the intent to make a curtain out of it...
i really thought this was the look i was going for... browns/blacks/taupe... i even bought these letters to hang above the doorway...
i hung up the letters but couldn't commit to the curtain...

after a while, the letters weren't really getting it for me anymore...
and the longer the fabric sat, the more indecisive i became about it... i really do like the look of it but it's a heavier fabric and i have a tiny, little kitchen and i thought it might close it in...

then i purchased some of this fabric which i love...
{i don't think it could be any more different than the first fabric option}

since it's brighter i thought i would just give it a try and see how it turned out...
if i didn't like it, what's the worst thing that could happen? take it down and i've only used a small amount of fabric from my supply...
 i just wanted a simple valance... it looked a little plain so i decided to add some frayed, ruffle trim to the bottom of it... a few layers of color made it complete...
and i really like the texture that it added...

now my kitchen has a cheery, little curtain :)
 once the curtain was finished i decided to redo the "eat" letters...
i just wrapped them with fabric strips and added a flower to the corner of the "e"...
i think they're so much cuter now!

i had a few plain hand towels that i have been wanting to do something with so they got a makeover today, too...

as i made things, i hung them on the cork board above my sewing machine...
{my workspace is one that i will share with you soon... i'm working on getting it all organized...}

i also made this tag today with the new colors in the kitchen... i'm going to hang it around the neck of one of the little glass bottles that sits on my windowsill...
a reminder that i needed today... {and that we all could use every now and then...}

it's a new year... do you have any projects that you've been wanting to start?

have a happy day~
angie

{sorry for the varying colors in the pictures... my house did not have the best lighting today}
