making JOY...

friday night was fun...

my girls and i went to a get together at my friend amy's house... everyone brought a recipe that we had been wanting to try which left us with some YUM-O things to snack on... {pizza dip, broccoli cheese dip, a marinated cheese appetizer, cherry cheesecake dip and toffee crackle}

it was so nice to just hang out with a few girls, talk about our kids, life, the ins and outs of instagram and the project that we were about to make...

since our girls were with us, ranging in age from 6-10, we decided it would be fun for them to do a modified version of what we were making...

{last week i took the girls with me to the craft store and they each chose a paper mache "M" to make and i let them check out the scrapbook paper aisles... decisions, decisions... we were there for quite a while and they both ultimately chose very sparkly papers in lime green and aqua...}

here are their finished letters...

i also had a hard time deciding at the store... i'm very indecisive and will change my mind again and again when choosing materials for what i want to make... do you do that? second guess your choices because you want it to come out just right? because i sure do...i always panic a little before the fact because i want whatever it is that i'm making to turn out like the vision i have in my mind... {remember... i'm working on not letting things like that hold me back :)}

i decided on non-traditional colors for my letters which spell out the word "JOY"... we recently re-did our bedroom in all shades of taupe and a light blue, creams and white... i wanted to do a little grouping on the chest of drawers with the "JOY" letters and an old silver tiered tray... vintage ornaments are another favorite of mine and i wanted to include them also...

here's the finished result...

"JOY" ~ handmade by me

i used plain scrapbook paper for the "J" and the "Y" and then added hand punched snowflakes and polka dots over top... the "O" is embossed paper topped with a wrapping of thin twine and a book page flower with a button center...

 i love how they turned out...

do you have a christmas project in the works? if so, i'd love to hear about it...

have a happy day ~
