ten on 4-10-13

it's time for ten on ten again... phew... these months are flying by... have you heard about the ten on ten photo project? {if not, you can check it out here...} i kind of love the idea... the whole gist of ten on ten is to capture 10 moments throughout your day... on the 10th of each month... it's to help with remembering the little moments that make up our everyday lives...

here we go...

i opened up some windows this morning to let some fresh air in... it's finally nice enough to do that... the girls were playing with maddie... once they left for school i noticed her in the window... with some yarn across her noodle... just sitting there... soaking up the sunshine...

i went to school... stopped at the park police office for a copy of the police report {from the stolen phone incident}... and headed to meet my friend... she had a phone for me to temporarily use...
don't be jealous... you know you love the flip :)  verizon hooked me back up... so this will be my phone until the 19th when i'm due to upgrade...

had a bowl of this yumminess for lunch...
creamy potato soup that i made for dinner last night... i'll be sharing this recipe soon...

thankful for this burst of color in our yard...

and i caught the first glimpse of peonies breaking through... so many leaves still need raked out of these beds...

even though it's been nice and warm today... this is the sky i'm looking at right now... doesn't look too friendly...

did some laundry... the towel load is always my favorite... easy to fold and put away...
 see those beach towels in there?... we did NOT just return from the beach or the swimming pool... they somehow always make it into the regular rotation no matter what shelf in the linen closet they're tucked away on...

got a little bit of work done...love these snippets of fabric that are being turned into some cute things...

little miss just got home from school... and that umbrella just got tossed... i'd say it's a little out of whack... wouldn't you?  haha...

and onto homework with both girls... with maizie missing 2 days this week... there's quite a bit...

have a happy day~

the best nest...

when i was little... the best nest by p.d. eastman was one of my favorite stories... the book was floating around at my grandma's house... and had crayon markings on the inside... i'm not sure whose book it was or where it ever ended up but i remembered it always... i liked the pink cover...
for my 25th birthday... my mom found and bought a copy of the best nest for me... i was so excited to have it in my hands again... knowing that i would one day love reading it to my children...
{check out mr. and mrs. bird :)}

fast forward a bit... i got married... and when we moved into our house in 2000... there was a huge ball of cement in the back yard with a tall metal pole coming out of it... the cement ball was too large for anyone to move so my dad had the idea to make me a bird house to sit on top of the pole... and that's just what he did... that ugly cement ball is buried deep in the ground and perched on top of the pole is what i like to refer to as...
"the best nest"

my 2 girls were born in 2002 and 2005... the best nest is a story that i've always read to them and they both love it as much as i did when i was little... {i just read it to marina's class a few weeks ago}...

over the years the little bird house that you see up there has been home to many mr. and mrs. birds...

the picture above was taken yesterday...

when i went outside this morning... there was a bit of activity going on there...
 straw...
and this little bird... waiting for me to stop taking pictures of it...
maizie and i watched as it flew back and forth...
 and back and forth...
busy little bird...

maizie hung up some yarn and string in the tree for them...
and...
they actually took some :)
it's been kind of fun to watch...

i think we'll have to read the best nest tonight...

do you have a favorite childhood story that holds lots of memories for you?

have a happy day~

right now... i'm taking care of this girl... {she's sick... with a fever :(}

right now... i'm looking forward to making this wreath...
{i placed my first order with paper source last week... i'm super happy with what i ordered from them and it shipped quickly... if you've never checked out their site, you should take a peek... lots of great greeting cards, stationery and gift items...}

right now... i'm wondering if any of you know what type of bird this is...
 it was in my yard this morning...

phone-less... and some flowers...

welp... i am phone-less... cell phone-less, that is... and i'm feeling a bit lost without it...

i was working with a friend... she's a photographer and we had a wedding yesterday...

we went to the park for pictures... and while we were enjoying lantermans mill with the new bride and groom... a huge rock was thrown through the passenger side window of my friend's car... and our phones were stolen...

the cops know who did it...  a few kids ages 10-13... it's crazy to me that they had the nerve to do this in broad daylight... they will be called in for questioning tomorrow... but who knows where the phones are at... or if we'll ever get them back...

i'm sick about it...

and it made for an interesting rest of our day...

 just picture this... glass shards everywhere... no passenger window... driving a 1/2 hour to the reception... wind whipping through the car... glass in my friends shoe... a cut on her hand and glass slivers on our clothing...

and the ride home... even better... glass shards still everywhere... no gps to get us home... plastic bags taped to the window... the wind whipping the bags to the point where the tape was giving way... we were laughing so hard and ready to cry all at the same time...
  ahhhh... all because some kids had to be rotten...

so today...
i'm trying to let it go... to stay positive... and i'm trying not to think about yesterday... i enjoyed some time outside with my family... i finally have some flowers popping up here and there... that made me happy...
these crocuses have been here since we moved in...
and they continue to multiply every year... the ones below are white with a little purple...
there used to be more that were solid purple... not quite sure what happened to them all... now there seems to be more white...
some miniature daffodils...

 i was thankful for little bursts of color in unexpected places today...

we had dinner at our picnic table...
and this girl was having some fun on the
 swing set...

how was your weekend?

have a happy day~

crocheting... a fabric bowl

when i was little... like 6 years old... i wanted to learn how to crochet... my mom showed me how to do the simple chain stitch...

i remember sitting and chaining a whole skein of yarn...

one skein turned into more skeins... and i remember gifting those LONG chains to family and friends... {they must have been thrilled...}

then... i started taking crochet lessons from a neighbors grandmother... the first project i wanted to make was and easter outfit... whoa! can't even imagine now what that would have looked like but it's a pretty funny memory to think that i was that ambitious...

i settled on making granny square slippers... with pom poms on the toes... they were red and white... and i gave them to my mom for christmas that year... i'm pretty certain that she still has them tucked away somewhere :)

anyhow... i've been wanting to give something a try for a while now... crocheting with material strips...
i tried it out the other day and am pretty excited...
i started going in a circle...
and kept going and going...
{love the colorful stitches}
i made a bowl...
with fun colored scraps that i had...
i think i'd like to make a few more...
they'll make for cute storage in my creative space...

do you like the top edge plain or do you think it needs a little ruffled or scalloped trim?

i'm on the fence and would love your input...

have a happy day~

a gardening basket...

today i put together a gardening basket for a friend of mine... she's going to a bridal shower on sunday... so she picked out a bunch of things and brought them over... lots of good stuff...

a large hanging basket with a cocoa mat... a cute bird bath... a hummingbird feeder... sturdy garden tools... a journal... a copy of spring cottage magazine {i peeked... & the pages are FULL of pretty things and inspiration}... and a pair of ethel gardening gloves...

i started arranging all of the things in the hanging basket... the bird bath was too big to put in assembled so i tucked the bowl in the back and off to the side... the base anchored the center of the basket... but there was a small hole in the top...
the perfect spot to add some pom pom flowers... they can be added to a mason jar or a vase when the basket is disassembled...
i gathered some sticks... and got to work...
i used a pretty blue, olive-y green, tan and cream for the pom poms...
there's a better view of spring cottage... now that you know what the cover looks like you can go grab a copy for yourself :)
my friend requested a "love blooms here" tag to be attached...
and there you have it... all finished... my lighting at this time of the day is not the best... but you get the idea... such a thoughtful gift!

have a happy day~
