a walk through her garden...

my mom loves to garden... her and my dad's yard has been a work in progress for many years... all of that hard work has definitely paid off... they have the prettiest yard... i'm a bit jealous of her green thumb...
and of her climbing hydrangea... it's gorgeous...

 would you like to take a walk through her garden with me?
this is part of her fairy garden...it's tucked under the shade of a huge maple tree in the back yard...
the girls love exploring while we're there...
 they've even found a sprinkling of fairy dust a time or two...
{maizie made this stone for my mom a few years ago}
 st. fiacre... the patron saint of gardening watches over...
there are roses... some that have been here a really long time...
and others that are newer... this rose came from me... it's a david austin rose and it smells so good... it withered up to almost nothing in my yard... i gave it to my mom and look at it now...
 along side of the garage is this nifty bike... she still has to plant the basket in the back...
 a little bunny... such a cute added detail...
  this fairy garden came home with me... what a nice surprise that was... i love it...
painted ferns are so pretty...
and this splash of yellow is happy!!!

what's blooming in your neck of the woods?

have a happy day~

wrappin' up another school year...

lots of things going on over here to finish out the school year so we can get our summer started...

marina danced her little heart out at her recital... her group danced to "it's a hard knock life"... annie was a favorite of mine when i was little so when i found out she was dancing to this song i was so excited... the girls did great... there were somersaults, cartwheels, splits... so fun... she can't wait to dance again next year...
maizie had her olympic day at school... and requested a shirt with her nickname on it...
 i dropped off this copy of oh the places you'll go to marina's teacher on monday... i'm sure many of you have seen this idea floating around on pinterest... i wish i would have known about it when maizie started school... for those of you who haven't heard about it... you buy a copy of the book and each year you have your child's teacher sign the book for them... and then when they graduate you give them their signed book as a keepsake... i'm tearing up just thinking about it... when i re-read what marina's sweet teacher wrote to her last year, i cried all over again... {i'm sentimental like that}
 maizie keeps telling marina how lucky she is because she's still little and gets to have a party on the last day... meanwhile, at the middle school... maizie will finish up a math final and clean out the rest of her locker...

 so... tomorrow is their last day... marina will say good-bye to first grade and maizie will bid farewell to fifth... another school year behind us...

they're SO ready to make their summer fun list... they were already throwing out some great ideas tonight...
 we're looking forward to spending lots of our days here... hopefully this ohio weather will cooperate...

what types of things are on your summer fun list? i'd love to hear!

have a happy day~

peonies

peonies are such a pretty flower... mine are finally blooming...
 i have a small collection of plants from my mom and a couple of her friends that were nice enough to share them with me... actually, a lot of my plants and flowers have made their way to our yard in this way...
isn't that the best way to acquire a pretty flower garden... by sharing with one another...
 a friendship garden of sorts...
the blooms are so fluffy... and pink...
i had to cut at least one to bring inside to enjoy...
that's one fancy, little hat...

what's blooming in your yard right now that makes you smile?

have a happy day~

what we've been up to...

hi there... how have you been?

we're good over here... john's been off this week... it's been a busy one... in a good way...

 we spent monday working in our backyard... phew... gardening is a job... our whole patio needed weeded... i did some planting... some mulch went down... it's looking so pretty back there... i have a bench and wicker chair that need a little re-painting... i'll have to share a pic once i get it all together...
{in the planter:  striped wave petunias {which you can't really see}... the taller, dainty, light purple flowers are nemesia {compact pink innocence}, and the purple and green flowers are a petunia hybrid {supertunia pretty much picasso}... i had them last year and loved them...}

the school year is winding down... marina had her field day on tuesday...
 it was H O T outside... thankfully there was a nice breeze... and i was happy that john and i were both able to volunteer to help out... such a fun day for the kids... and for us... water relays... belly bumpers... tug-of-war... and some parachute action...
i had a great 6 mile walk in the park on wednesday... and was going to aim for a nine miler today but marina was home from school so i hung out here with her and watched the lion king instead...
 i'm on the cusp of another book club get together... this book is a good one... i have a ways to go but i'm really liking it so far... have you read it?
another glimpse of our yard...we started working on this area, as well...
 this playhouse pic is a before shot... it's in the process of getting scrubbed... and cleared out... the weeds need to go and it needs a bit of mulch... some tlc is in order... i'd like to add little curtains to it this year... and the flower boxes need some flowers... impatiens always do well... what color should i plant?
 there was a day that included some sprinkler fun...
 marina and her little friend were flying through the yard looking for these... i snapped a quick pic of this one... i love the tiny details of this wishing posy... go ahead...

make a wish...
  have you heard of handel's ice cream?
 there are locations popping up in other places across the country... we're lucky to live near the original handel's ice cream location...it was given a makeover this spring... we visited there the other day and picked up a couple of pints... peanut butter parfait and banana cream pie... yum!
maizie's school had their art show last night... here's her tessellation project... turtles...
 hard to believe that a few days ago it was warm enough to run through the sprinkler... last night they were calling for frost... ugh! had to cover the plants that i could and bring others inside... i chose to cut these irises... i don't really have a green thumb but i try... so i'm thankful for these... so pretty...
today the high was 53 degrees... the low tonight is going to hit 33... needless to say... we were chillin' in a 60 degree house... our furnace is now back on...

what have you been up to this week?

have a happy day~

a medley of things...

first off... my computer has been actin' a fool... a p.c. that's on it's last legs for sure... she's been a good one... however, it now takes me F O R E V E R to upload photos... the tower sounds like it's about to take off at any moment... when i click on something it just swirls and swirls... the screen freezes... ugh! i've been working on this post for 56 minutes now and this is where i'm at... you get the idea...

that's why i haven't posted as much this month... it's been driving me crazy... so... this post will be a medley of things...
 a happy day surprise from my mom... {you can see more on that here and here...}

 a little close up...
a wire tray... holding a new piece of milk glass & some pretty vine and flowers from her yard.. and a copy of mingle... {i'm pretty certain i have a fancy magazine problem}...

********

 stopped at the store yesterday... AND there they were... in all their blue glory on one of target's enticing end caps...
even though the color is more blue than i thought they'd be... i still felt compelled to bring home a box... into the cart they went...

********

we're heading into the busy end of the year stuff... maizie had her 5th grade orchestra concert last week...
i can't believe how much she's learned and how far she's come with the cello this year... she loves it and says that it's something she wants to continue... i'm pretty happy about that... all of the kids did a fantastic job that night...

********

we spent mother's day at my mom's house...
we were going through some old pictures and had some laughs...
 anyone else remember sportin' the sponge rollers back in the day?

********
 john and the girls surprised me with a new plant for mother's day... meet sister therese... the white hydrangea...
so, so pretty!

********

and miss marina is reading up a storm...
she read the best nest to me last night... it's still my fave...

********

did you know oopsie maizie has a facebook page? if you'd like, you can follow along on there, too... just type oopsie maizie into the search and click "like"...

********

and before i forget... i just want to take a quick sec to thank all of you who are taking time out of your busy days to read this little blog of mine... i appreciate your comments and kind words... they completely make my day!!!

have a happy day~

ten on 5-10-13

ten on ten... this is a fun little photo project that i saw here... you take 10 photos throughout the day on the tenth of each month... it helps you to remember the little things... the moments that make up our days and our lives... i love the idea...

7:00... marina was super excited to take this little gift to school this morning that we put together for her teacher... {happy teacher appreciation week to all of the teachers out there...}
she picked out the ribbon that she thought would look the best on the tag... and added the cute chipboard strawberry to tie it all together...

8:00... dropped off this gift to the head room mom...
this is the gift from the entire class for marina's teacher... {i love to wrap...}

11:00... went to this place for lunch...
yum-o...
if you're local... you must give it a try...
gordy's...
this sandveech... as they're called there... is the purple cat... sweet ham... cream cheese, hot pepper jelly, red onions... and baby spinach... on a delicious roll... SO good...

12:00... i whipped open the marmalade charm pack that i purchased yesterday... look at all of these colors/patterns...
love... love... love...
i have a certain project in mind for them that i'll be sharing with you soon...

1:00... shopping for a birthday gift and picked up this little notebook... for myself... you can never have too many notebooks... check out that cute stitching...
thanks target for forcing me into another unnecessary purchase... {the folks at target are good at that... would you agree?}

3:00...  little miss arrived home from school...
and it was time for a little Q & A with her... i love number 3...

she had some other things tucked in her backpack and was bursting with excitement to give them to me... i said "don't ya want to wait until mother's day?"... she did not...
 she knows how much i love polka dots...
and this is what was wrapped up in those colorful polka dots above... aww... i can't tell you how much i love little hands... she picked green because it's my favorite color... i cried... she gave me a great big hug... so sweet... i never want to forget  these moments...

4:00... our azaleas are in full bloom over here...

i'm thankful for some color on an otherwise kind of dreary, somewhat rainy day...

9:00... i love a good magazine... or 3...

have a happy day~
