a trip to whitehouse fruit farm... we do this every year around this time...

it's a tradition that i hope the girls will always remember... it's the perfect spot for pumpkins, donuts and honey crisp apples...

what a beautiful day it was!

what fall traditions do you enjoy with your family?

a day at the family garden...

on the radio this morning i heard the words... "chance of a rainy, snowy mix tonight..."

what???

seriously not ready for that...

i'm so not a winter girl... i really could do without the snow...

i love summer... hot temps and sunshine speak to me... they make me happy...

with all of this snowy mix talk, i've decided to take a look back at summer today... i'll be sharing with you a nice, sunshiny day that i spent with my girls at fellows riverside gardens... the rose garden, as i've called it since i was a little girl, is one of my favorite places...
there was:

scarecrow creating...

birdie treat making...

poetry stone painting...
little hands beading...

sunflower spotting...
 veggie picking...
discovering &  learning...
 zinnia planting...

colorful chalking...
 and most of all...

memory making...

have a happy day~

fun with vegetables...

this morning was a blast...

i got to teach an art class to a group of little ones...

it involved vegetables... peppers, cucumber, radishes, asparagus, broccoli, lettuce, celery, snow peas, carrots, potatoes...

and colorful paints...
vegetable printing...
have you ever tried this? if you haven't, you should give it a whirl... it's a neat experience for the kiddos and you'll have a good time, too...

it's fun to get messy with all of it... the textures, shapes and mixes of color...

i used a thicker paper... and acrylic paints...

 {i love the variety of colors that acrylic comes in... be careful though, acrylic stains so wear an art shirt or something you don't mind getting paint on...}
these flowers were made using pepper rings, radishes, carrots, and snow peas...

depending on the age of the children, flowers may be too specific... a whole collage of prints turns out just as cute... and fun for the maker... it's all about the process when creating art with kids...
i love watching little hands at work...
these rainbow pepper rings turned out awesome...
look at all of the textures... the rose looking print was done by using the end of the celery stalk...
so... if you have some veggies that are almost past their prime... pull 'em out...
and let your kids create...

have a happy day~

embrace the camera... monday = SMILES

have you ever visited ashley at under the sycamore... or emily at the anderson crew? if not... you should... they are so real... and their love for their families = amazing... they are both so full of heart and that shines through in their words and in their photographs...

this morning i was reading this blog post that ashley wrote...

i'm not going to lie... it made me cry... it really struck a chord with me...

i've read emily's embrace the camera series for quite some time... i love the memories that she captures with her kiddos in the every day... i've always wanted to link up... but never have...

i would say that 99% of the time i hide behind the camera or as far away from the camera as i can...

my mind immediately goes to such superficial things... like what i'm wearing isn't that nice... or my hair is a mess... or my makeup is smudgy and half on from yesterday... or i look tired and have dark circles under my eyes... i'm typically not all put together and therefore in my mind... i am never photo ready...

it's silly...
no... sad, really... the way we're so hard on ourselves...

i want to be better at this for my girls...
i don't have a ton of pictures of myself with my mom and i wish there were more...

with that being said... i'm joining in with ashley and emily's challenge this week...

today i embraced the camera while i was going through marina's book bag with her... we do this everyday when she gets off of the bus... it's our time to talk about her day before her big sister gets home...

so here we are... as we are... in the moment... wearing our SMILES...
have a happy day~

"the rubber duck"

a few weeks ago, i logged onto the computer and on the home page was a photo of a huge rubber duck floating down a river... did anyone else see it?

i clicked on the article to see what it was about...

an artist by the name of florentijn hofman created "the rubber duck"... it's crazy big... like, 40 feet tall... how fun is it that this piece of art is traveling around the world for people to enjoy?

i called my girls in to see the pictures... they were laughing because it's so silly... and cute... and BIG...

the pictures that were shown online were from when the duck was on tour over seas... such neat pictures... i mentioned to the girls in passing that it would be a really fun thing to see...

*******************************************************

fast forward to september 27th...

my friend michelle and i were heading to pittsburgh {i was going along to help her with an engagement shoot}...  she proceeded to tell me that it might be pretty crowded where we were headed because there was supposed to be some giant duck there that night...

needless to say, i was just a tad excited... probably more than i should have been... but i never thought i'd get to see it in person...

so awesome to see it coming up the river...
it made me smile...
i mean, really... how could it not?

so fun!

if you click on the artist's name above it will take you to his site... he's done some really interesting things... check out the "slow slugs" made with metal, football nets and 40,000 plastic bags... A M A Z I N G!!!

have a happy day~
