creating art with children...

if there is one thing that i love... it's creating with my children... it's when i'm the happiest... i always had arts and craft supplies at home as a child and have done the same for my girls... there isn't a day that goes by that our dining room table isn't covered with art supplies...
that table is now coined as "the art table" and after endless art with my girls and two summers of art classes under it's belt... i'm embracing it's splatters and marks... some may say it's ruined... i'm going with artsy :) a lot of memories have been made around that little table...
i had 15 girls {including mine} this summer for art... it was SO fun... a whirlwind of projects and creativity flying on mondays and thursdays...

i hold all of the projects and host an art show for them... they've all worked so hard and i think it's important that they're showcased and appreciated...

   invitations are sent out...
family members are invited... each child has their own display... punch and fun treats are involved... i'm so looking forward to it this year... in the mean time... here is a little sneak peak of what we've been up to...

little houses... i took a vote during the last classes that i held and this was chosen as their overall favorite project...
 these are in progress photos...
the girls had a fun selection of items to chose from to make their houses their own...

paints... book pages... colorful/patterned cardstock...corrugated papers... buttons... coffee filters... ribbons... fabrics and trims... they had such a good time with it... the end results were fantastic and each so creative... i love seeing that come out in children...
there were painted paper projects...
a really neat recycled project using lids that i can't wait to share... {thanks to all who saved them for us!}
quirky, abstract self portraits were another fave... all turning out as unique as their maker... {this is marina's}

it's really been a great time for them and for me... the art show is September 8th... which i'm sure will become a post of it's own...

what are your favorite projects to do with your kids? i'd love to hear :)

have a happy day~

i'm back... {and a little project}

well, hello there! have ya missed me? i sure have missed being here... apparently this little blog of mine was in need of a summer vacay, too...

the old pc is officially kaput...

so right now, i'm typing from my shiny new laptop... and it's good to be back... i feel like i have so many things to share...

first up is a fun project that i'd been wanting to make for a long time...

you see, my mom and aunt went to new york a while back... there's a shop there called purl soho whose site i look at online all the time... many of you may have already heard of it... but if you've never taken a peek you really should... there's a whole lot of pretty going on there...

i told my mom that if she was going to be in new york {i've never been} that she should really try to find this little shop... she wasn't sure if she would have time or if they would even be able to find it...

well, one day... they walked... and walked... and walked... and they found it...

while i wish i had some photos from the inside of this amazing shop... what i will share with you is a photo of what was brought home for me...

 a lovely little surprise... i was SO excited... i untied the twill ribbon and unwrapped the tissue to find adorable fabrics and the little birds book that i had been wanting...

i couldn't wait to make that little bird...  but first, i needed to be sure to pick a fun color of felt for the little guy...

i chose aqua... {can't seem to get enough of that color lately}... and i think he turned out really cute...
so cute... that i made my mom a little red one for her birthday...
doesn't it make you happy to finally complete something that you've really been wanting to get to?

some of you may have seen my little bird pics on instagram... if you'd like, you can follow me there... @angreese is my user name...

for now...
have a happy day~
